Common SEO mistakes

Areas of SEO can be complex, however, sometimes the basics of SEO can get overlooked or forgotten so here are some common mistakes we see and how to fix them!

Keywords in incorrect places ❌

Not having the word 'Cornwall' in the website content ❌

Without having the word 'Cornwall' in the websites content how will Google know you want to be found for local searches including 'Cornwall' ? Google is smart but you also need to give it as much basic information as possible, help Google know exactly who you are and what you do and it will reward you with higher rankings for relevant search queries ✅

Not using a H1 title tag ❌

A basic element of SEO, but one that gets overlooked or forgotten far too often. Treat the H1 title tag as your most important header, it should contain the main keyword and location you are targeting. Most CMS (content management systems) have easy guides on how to add a H1 to your website pages, alternatively ask your web developer or a good SEO company in Cornwall  ✅

Not using analytics ❌

Not having Google Analytics or google search console connected to the website is a huge mistake, there are so many valuable insights we can learn from these tracking tools. Make sure to add these to your website and start monitoring the data

Not having a secure website ❌

Websites need to have an SSL certificate and be using HTTPS. An SSL certificate helps encrypt data on your site like user information or credit card details etc HTTPS is a more secure and up to date version of HTTP. 
SSL = Secure sockets layer
HTTP = Hypertext transfer protocol
HTTPS = Hypertext transfer protocol secure
Installing an SSL certificate depends on the OS (operating system) of the web server on which your site is hosted, Contact your web host for more info.
