Optimise your Google Business ProfileFor any local business a properly optimised Google Business Profile will be essential and the cheapest investment you can make because it's totally free, it can and will make your business money in the long run. Watch the video below for a full tutorial on how to set up a Google Business Profile with helpful tips. Get regular reviewsGetting regular reviews is something that gets overlooked far too often, don't forget a new review on your Google Business Profile can boost your rankings! We usually see profiles with 1 5-star review, posted very soon after the profile went live and then nothing for the next few months or even years! Google likes to see regular good reviews so it can keep the best businesses ranking highly but more importantly, potential new customers will be looking at your reviews before contacting so make sure they are good and recent. Embed Google mapsYou can add a Google map to any webpage or footer with your business address, this suits businesses that have a physical location for people to visit. You can also use Google Maps to show the area you cover with your business services. Watch the video below on how to embed Google Maps to your website (WordPress) Use location keywordsUsing location keywords in the correct places will tell Google and users where your business is based or the areas you cover. Without this information within the page its meta tags, headers and URL it will be difficult for Google to understand and show your website for location-based search queries for example 'SEO services in Cornwall' it may sound obvious but you will need to have the actual words 'Plumber + Cornwall' used in the areas mentioned above to start ranking for similar searches. Use location pagesLocation pages are used if you cover a large area for example the whole of Cornwall, you can create pages for each town you'd like to target, if you were a plumber in Cornwall you could set up a location page for 'bathroom installation Penzance' or Truro, Falmouth etc One thing to note is when setting up location pages you need to make sure there is enough search volume to make it worthwhile. You can use software like Ahrefs or Semrush for accurate search volumes and keyword ideas. Other blogs you may like...Author: DeanFounder of Smart SEO Cornwall.
